Good 'horror' movie recommendation?

It doesn't have to be a horror movie per se, it can be thriller-ish
also.

Movies like... I don't know... Identity, The Shining (original),
Misery, 1408. I can't think of any other good horrors I've seen.

I just don't want it to be another boring slasher movie with lots of
blood and limbs flying all over, or any of those cliche alien movies
like War of the Worlds.

I guess I like these Stephen King-ish types of movies, well I like
most of his film adaptations.

Something of that type I guess, just something that's not stupid. And
by stupid I mean no plot, shitty actors that are there just to die,
too much blood and screaming... Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Saw,
Hostel etc.
Everyone saw The Silence of the Lambs, heh. And Paranormal Activity
was such a horrible movie. I was freaked out when I finished watching
it, but not because it was scary. Because I'd never get that hour and
a half of my life back.

So Paranormal Activity IS THE WORST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN. :<
